As most people know, goats will eat just about anything. Just ask Kaldi, the Ethiopian goatherd of legend. As the story goes, sometime in the 800s AD in the Kaffa region of Ethiopia, Kaldi noticed his goat herd grazing on the cherry-red berries of one of the native shrubs, dancing about, from one shrub to another.

After some observation, Kaldi determined that it must have been the berries that were causing his goats to act so crazy. And so, Kaldi decided to try the berries himself. We're guessing they didn't taste very good, but that he soon discovered their powerful effect, and the peculiar euphoria they seemed to incite.

Years later, the seeds contained within Kaldi's berries would be cultivated, roasted, ground, and brewed into what we now know as coffee. We don't know about you, but we'd like to raise our coffee mugs in hearty thanks to Kaldi and his crazy goats!
